How to Repair Buckled Tile in Shower
- 1). Dig out the grout around the perimeter of the buckled tile with your grout saw. Move the saw forward and back over the grout, working down gradually. Extract as much of the grout as possible, making sure it's dug out at least about two-thirds down throughout the perimeter.
- 2). Hold the chisel into the grout line on the highest side of the buckled tile. Tap lightly with your hammer, working at the mortar under the tile. Don't pry it out, but work your way around, chiseling at the base, until the tile pops out.
- 3). Clean up the exposed wall, using your hammer and chisel to remove any remaining mortar. Blow away all the dust and debris.
- 4). Use your putty knife to spread tile mortar on the back of the extracted tile (or on a replacement tile, if the extracted tile is damaged). Press the tile in place in the space on the shower wall, keeping a consistent space around it with the surrounding tiles.
- 5). Let the tile set overnight. Grout it the next day, pressing the grout into the spaces around the tile with your rubber grout trowel. Wipe off the excess grout with a damp sponge.
- 6). Let the grout set for three to four days. Don't use the shower during this time. Apply two to three coats of grout sealant over the new grout, using a small brush. Let the sealant dry overnight.
