How to Build a Water Feature in a Pot
- 1). Add a layer of small stones to the bottom of the water feature pot. Fill it an inch or 2 deep. The stones help level plants and give good bacteria a place to grow.
- 2). Fill the plant pots about two-thirds with the potting soil. Tamp the soil down with your fingers.
- 3). Place the plants in their pots. Splay their roots out evenly over the soil.
- 4). Add enough soil to come 1 inch below the pot's rim. If planting waterlilies, leave their growing points exposed
- 5). Place a layer of small rocks in the pots to prevent the fish from disturbing the soil.
- 6). Arrange the potted plants in an attractive manner. Group the plants so that shorter species are toward the outside, while taller plants are at the back in the middle.
- 7). Place a brick under one or two potted plants. This adds height to the water feature.
- 8). Add a small amount of azolla or duckweed to the waters' surface.
