What Is an APO FPO Address?
- APO and FPO addresses allow the postal service to efficiently deliver mail to active duty military members serving overseas. When the mail arrives at the APO or FPO, the staff will send the mail onto the proper division of the military to which the addressee belongs. The division then delivers the mail to the individual.
- The way the address is written on the package determines which post office it will be sent to. The package must be labeled with the region in which the addressee resides, the Americas, Europe or the Pacific. The Army and Air Force handle mail to APOs, while the Navy is responsible for FPO mail.
- Three post office hubs exist in the U.S.. They are located in New York, New York, Miami, Florida, and San Francisco, California. These locations correspond with mail needing routing to Europe, the Americas and the Pacific.
