How to Use a Grain Magnifier
- 1). Place the grain magnifier on your easel on top of where your photographic negative is resting. The grain magnifier should be well balanced so it doesn't tip over.
- 2). Position a light source above the grain magnifier. Any desktop lamp can serve as a light source. The light from a photo enlarger machine also works well.
- 3). Twist the eyepiece on the grain magnifier in order to adjust it. You should see the line side of the magnifier clearly and sharply. This line is the focusing line. Continue adjusting the focus until you see the line clearly.
- 4). Look into the eyepiece and you should be able to see all of the individual grains on your photo. If you don't, refocus the eyepiece.
- 5). Turn the magnifier ring, located just below the eyepiece, to increase or decrease the magnification of the grains on the photo. Turning the ring clockwise will increase the magnification, while turning it counterclockwise will decrease magnification.
