Which Vitamin Is Good for Eyes?
- The body can get vitamin A from an antioxidant in plants called beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is abundant in orange fruits and vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes and in leafy green vegetables such as spinach.
- Vitamin A is found in some of the following animal-based foods: fish oil, eggs, milk and cheese.
- Getting enough vitamin A promotes good eye health. However, getting too much is dangerous and results in a condition called hypervitaminosis A, that causes the skin to turn orange.
- Adult males need about 900 micrograms per day. Adult women need about 700 micrograms every day.
- Eating a balanced diet and taking a multivitamin each day will ensure that one gets enough vitamin A. Always talk to your doctor before taking vitamin supplements.
