Instructions for Baseboard and Molding Installation
- 1). Measure the base of the wall to determine how many feet of molding will be necessary for installation. Run a tape measure around the entire room and add up the total linear feet. Add 10 percent for cuts that will need to be made.
- 2). Line up the first piece of baseboard molding along the wall to make sure it is the desired style and size necessary. Slide the piece into a miter saw and turn the blade to 45 degrees. Cut the end of the piece off to form the angle of the first side.
- 3). Line up the piece along the wall and insert two finishing nails in each corner of the baseboard with a nailer. Run a bead of caulk along the top edge and down the side with a caulk gun to seal it to the wall. Wipe away any excess with a rag. Install the second piece in the same manner butting the two pieces together and continue until reaching the end of the first wall.
- 4). Measure and mark on the trim where the cut will need to be made and cut the piece to size with a miter saw. Continue around the entire room until all of the baseboard has been installed. Go back over the wall and cover each nail hole with caulk. Clean up the excess with a rag.
- 5). Install the other molding in the same manner as the baseboard. Measure and mark on the molding where the cuts need to be made and install any other type of molding such as casing and crown just like the baseboard was installed.
