How to Set Stone Kitchen Backsplash Tiles
- 1). Sand the wall where you plan to install the stone tile backsplash with 180-grit sandpaper.
- 2). Clean off any dust or debris on the wall with a clean rag.
- 3). Spread an even coat of tile mastic onto the wall with a notched trowel.
- 4). Press the stone tile mats onto the wall. Start in the center and work your way along the bottom row until it is complete. Continue working up the wall in this manner until you have reached the bottom of the top cabinetry. Allow the mastic to dry for 24 hours.
- 5). Grout the joints between the stone tile by dragging a grout float with grout on it at an angle across all of the joints between tile mats and individual stones within the mats.
- 6). Wait until a haze develops over the surface of the stones or approximately 15 minutes. Wash the haze off of the tiled surface with a damp sponge. Rinse the sponge and continue washing until the sponge wrings out clear water. Allow the grout to dry for 72 hours before placing anything against the tiled backsplash.
