Job Description for a Combat Engineer
- Combat engineers construct fighting positions, build fixed and floating bridges, and construct obstacles and defensive positions. They conduct river-crossing operations, execute target demolition, and prepare and install firing systems for demolition and explosives. A combat engineer also detects mines and prepares route clearance operations.
- Combat engineers must train in demolition, explosive hazards, constructing wire obstacles, urban operations and operating heavy equipment. They must be able to use basic power tools, work outdoors, and operate calmly and efficiently under stress.
- A combat engineer must direct and assist in operations, direct the construction of fighting positions, control fire team movements, place explosives and clear misfires, and construct counter-explosive hazards.
