How to Plant Liriope Emerald Goddess
- 1). Plant in partial to full sun. Gardeners in cooler climates can grow the liriope in full sun, while those in regions with hot summers should provide afternoon shade.
- 2). Till the soil in the planting area to a depth of 10 inches. Remove any debris that turns up, such as rocks and roots.
- 3). Add 3 inches of coarse sand to the soil, if your soil is not already sandy and mix it to a depth of 6 inches.
- 4). Measure the planting pot in which the liriope is growing and dig a hole the same depth but three times the width of the container.
- 5). Remove the liriope from its container and loosen the root ball with your fingers. Place the root ball into the hole and pack the soil around it. If you are planting more than one Emerald Goddess, space the plants 18 inches apart.
- 6). Water the liriope Emerald Goddess until the soil is saturated.
- 7). Spread a 3-inch thick layer of shredded pine bark on the soil, 3 inches from the base of the liriope and spread it out 6 inches beyond its widest point.
