With widespread use of radiocontrast-enhanced imaging examinations, it is important for clinicians and radiologists to be aware of thyroid-specific complications. Patient's history and physical examination are important. Risk factors should be always assessed. Prophylaxis is not required in patients without any underlying thyroid disease. The prevention of iodine-induced hyperthyroidism has been recommended only in high-risk patients.
