    The Secret Annex

    • Anne Frank and her family moved to Amsterdam in 1933 where they lived until July 6, 1942. This was the day they had to go into hiding. The family hid in an annex, behind a bookshelf at Otto's work. This hideout was built by Otto and consisted of four rooms which Anne called the "Secret Annex." They hid here for two years with five other people. They played monopoly, read books and listened to music. Anne would practice ballet at night after everyone in the building had gone home.

    Anne's Diary

    • Anne Frank received her dairy from her parents on her 13th birthday while living in the annex. She named it Kitty, because she wrote to her cat that she had to leave behind.

    The Frank's Arrest

    • The Franks were discovered by the police after an anonymous tip. They were arrested on August 4, 1944. Anne was first sent to Auschwitz then to Bergen-Belsen where she died seven months later.

    Concentration Camps

    • Anne and her sister died of Typhus. Edith, Anne's mother, died of starvation within the camps. Otto was the only survivor. He was given Anne's diary.

    Anne Frank's Legacy

    • Otto then published parts of Anne's diary in 1947. It was translated into English in 1952. The annex is now a museum.
