How to Choose a Belt Size for My Husband Based on Pants Size
- 1). Take a mental inventory to determine what size pants your husband owns that seem to fit him well (no matter what the brand is) without a belt. If you can answer this question, choosing a belt size based on the size of these pants is rather straight-forward. A good sized belt is generally 1 to 3 inches larger than the pants size. Split the difference. Add 2 inches to the pants size. For example, if size 36 pants fit your husband well, buy him a size 38 belt.
- 2). Add 1 to 2 inches to your husband’s largest pants size if, in Step 1, you realize that your husband’s pants size varies widely depending upon the brand. Then add another inch to arrive at an estimated belt size. Pants manufactures have been known to use less than accurate size labels to try to flatter prospective buyers. Depending upon the brand, the actual size of a pair of pants can be 1 to 5 inches larger than what the label indicates.
- 3). Think about your husband’s body type. If your husband has larger hips, in relation to his waist, his waist measurement can be 1 to 2 inches smaller than what his true pants size indicates. Add only 1 inch to your husband’s pants size, to estimate his belt size, if he matches this body type.
