How to Treat Permed and Damaged Hair
- 1). Condition your hair once a week using a deep conditioning hair masque with nourishing ingredients. Look for products containing argan oil, a natural ingredient derived from kernels of the Argan tree, native to Morocco. Apply the masque on freshly towel dried hair from scalp to ends. Give yourself a light scalp massage, taking care to work the product into the scalp. This will also help to stimulate hair follicles to encourage healthy hair growth.
- 2). Use a wide tooth comb when combing wet hair. This is an important step in preventing breakage. Permed and damaged hair is fragile and therefore, it needs to be handled with care. Avoid using brushes or fine tooth combs when your hair is wet, as this could result in snagging the hair which will end is breakage.
- 3). Wash your hair every other day. Avoid washing it each day because this can contribute to dehydrating the hair and scalp. On days when you wash your hair, use professional salon products. Be sure to use a conditioner each time you wash your hair. Allow the conditioner to be left in the hair for 2-3 minutes before rinsing. Rinse hair with cool water. This will seal the cuticle of the hair and prevent further damage or breakage.
- 4). Apply a leave-in keratin treatment. Keratin, or protein, is what hair is made of. During a chemical process, keratin bonds in the hair or weakened, resulting in a change in appearance of the hair. To strengthen hair and restore it to a healthy condition, treating it with keratin products is essential. Leave-in keratin conditioners are available in sprays and creams.
