YouTube Goes Widescreen
Do you wish you could watch YouTube videos in widescreen? Well, wish no more because YouTube officially announced yesterday that they are changing the aspect ratio of the video player on their site thus expanding the width of all the viewed videos on the site.
From a 4:3 aspect ratio of the site's video player, it will now become 16:9 giving the experience of a high-definition television or a movie screen.
A statement made by the YouTube team on their blog states: "We're expanding the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos you create and the screens that you use to watch them.
This new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which we hope will provide you with a cleaner, more powerful viewing experience.
And don't worry, your 4:3 aspect ratio videos will play just fine in this new player.
" There may be some users who are worried that their 4:3 videos may appear stretched when uploaded to the website.
YouTube has also arranged this by putting the 4:3 videos in the center of the screen and putting black vertical bars at the sides.
There are also already several video sharing websites who use the widescreen format like Vimeo and Blip.
