Hair Trap Installation
- 1). Purchase a hair trap kit at either a hardware store or online. These kits typically include two slip nuts, a washer a filter/handle assembly, an O-ring and the hair trap itself.
- 2). Place a bucket under the sink to catch any water that may leak during installation.
- 3). Loosen the two nuts that hold together the P-trap, the joint under the sink that curves up and joins to the pipe connected to the wall. One nut attaches the P-trap to the sink drain and the other attaches it to drain pipe that leads outside.
- 4). Pull down on the P-trap to remove the joint. Then place the washer over the tail of the hair trap.
- 5). Place one end of one slip nut over the washer on the tail of the hair trap and place the other end of this slip nut on the flange of the pipe under the sink. The flange is the ridge on the end of the pipe. Place one end of the second slip nut over the flange of the pipe connected to the wall.
- 6). Connect the hair trap to the pipes and tighten the slip nuts to ensure it is firmly attached.
