Taking a Photo

• 1). Examine the top of the camera. To the right is the shutter button. This will appear silver against the camera's black body. A ring around the shutter button is the camera's on/off switch. On the left side of the camera body is a dial with 11 pictures on it. This is the "mode" dial. Each of these icons is a setting for your camera. The icon that resembles a green camera body is the "full automatic" setting. A camera in this mode changes its own aperture and shutter speed based on light readings in this setting.
  
  
• 2). Turn the camera off by moving the switch ring that is located around the shutter to the off position. The white arrow on the camera body will be aligned with the word "off." Then attach a lens by placing the lens mount into the camera ring so that the white dot on the side of the lens aligns with the light dot on the side of the camera. Turn the lens so that the dot points upward and the lens makes a clicking sound to secure the lens in place.
  
  
• 3). Turn the camera on by moving the switch ring to the on position.
  
  
• 4). Look on the front of the camera below the mode dial. A switch with the letters M and AF will be there. This switch changes the camera setting from manual focus to automatic focus. Switch the camera to auto focus.
  
  
• 5). To take a basic picture, turn the mode dial so that the full automatic option is selected. Hold the camera's viewfinder up to your eye and compose your picture. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus the picture. Press the button fully down to take the photo.
  
  

Taking Video

• 1). Look at the back of the camera. On the right side of the playback screen you should see a button marked "LV". You should also see a button marked OK in the center of a click wheel. Press this button. You will no longer be able to look through the viewfinder. Instead the playback screen will show the images coming through the lens.
  
  
• 2). Compose your video image and press the shutter halfway down to focus.
  
  
• 3). Press the OK button to start filming the video.
  
  
• 4). Press OK again to stop recording.
