Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available, and the most popular non-surgical procedure. We will be offering free Botox on Wednesdays from April until June, so here are a few frequently asked questions you can get answered before you call to schedule your appointment:
What is Botox, exactly?
Botox is an injectable medicine that is used to soften the appearance of wrinkles and prevent future wrinkles from forming or existing ones from deepening. It is most commonly administered to wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead.
How Long Does it Last?
It is a temporary treatment that can last up to four months. If you undergo a series of treatments, you may notice that you can go longer between treatments after awhile, as the muscles become more and more relaxed over time.
Does it Hurt?
The medications are administered with a small syringe, so you might feel a brief sting or pinch at the injection site. Your doctor may offer you an ice pack to help with any discomfort you might experience.
How Long Does it Take?
The administration of Botox only takes about 10 minutes, give or take, depending on your specific case. Most patients can have their treatment done over a lunch break.
What Are the Side Effects?
The most common side effects are irritation at the injection site (which should fade within a few hours) and headaches. Some patients may also experience neck pain, bruising, or an allergic reaction.
Will I Be Able to Move My Forehead?
We've all seen celebrities with €frozen forehead€ syndrome from badly or improperly administered Botox injections. When the procedure is correctly done, you will still be able to move your eyebrows and forehead, so you can still look surprised or move your face when you laugh. You can reduce the possibility of looking like you've had Botox injections by going to a Board certified surgeon, who is trained to administer them properly.
What is the Recovery Time?
There is no real recovery time. As soon as you leave the office, you can resume your normal activities. You will want to avoid pushing on the spot for a few hours, and stay out of the sun. If you do see bruising, it will resolve within 48 hours. It may take a few days for the effects of the Botox injections to become clearly visible, but this will not affect your regular activities.
