How do I Convert Miles to an Airline Ticket?

31

    Online

    • 1). Visit the website of the airline with which you will be flying.

    • 2). Look for a link or tab that says, "Use miles," "Purchase flight with miles" or something similar. Click on that tab. Follow the prompts until you arrive at a screen requesting your departure and arrival locations and dates (if the link does not take you there immediately). Don't worry if you don't see a link or tab like this on the airline's home page; at some point during the booking process, you will be able to select the option of using your miles.

    • 3). Fill in your departure and arrival airports and dates, the number of passengers for whom you are making the reservation, and anything else this page requests. Click on the corresponding "Go," "OK," "Continue," "Search for flights" or similar button.

    • 4). Click on your desired flight or flights (if you have multiple options), then click "OK," "Continue" or similar button.

    • 5). Follow the prompts to finish converting your miles to an airline ticket. At some point, you will need to enter your frequent flyer number and associated password, your full name, a credit or debit card number to cover any fees or taxes, and other similar information.

    By Phone

    • 1). Call the airline with which you will be flying. You may call either the Reservations number, if there is one, or the general number for the airline. If you call the general number, follow the prompts for "Reservations," "Reservation assistance," or something similar.

    • 2). Tell the reservations agent you want to book a flight using your frequent flyer miles.

    • 3). Provide all information the reservations agent requests. This will include your frequent flyer number, your departure and arrival airports and dates, your full name, a debit or credit card number to pay any fees or taxes, and other similar information. Be aware that some airlines may charge a fee for booking through an agent rather than online.
