How to Make Plastic Fish
- 1). Determine the size and shape of the plastic fish to be made. Choose from a slender minnow shape, or a shape that is shorter and larger in diameter, based on personal preference and intended use.
- 2). Select enamel paint colors based on the species of bait fish to be imitated. Use colors including white, silver, blue, black and green for realism. Consider using attractant colors like yellow, orange, red and purple.
- 3). Paint the plastic lure body with the enamel paint, using small hobby paint brushes. Apply a base coat of white or silver, for example, and layer other colors on top as desired. Allow each layer and different color to completely dry before adding more paint.
- 4). Attach screw-in eyes to the front, belly and tail of the plastic fish. Use a pair of pliers if necessary.
- 5). Attach a split ring and treble hook to the belly and tail screw-in eyes. Use a pair of split ring pliers to spread the wire on the split ring, so the treble hook and screw-in eye can be threaded on.
