Why Are Plants Yellowing With Canna Coco?

19

    Canna Coco

    • Canna is a trade name for a series of hydroponic nutrients, substrates and solutions especially formulated to deliver the maximum dose to plants in aqua-systems. Originally formulated for use with a coco substrate, the company now has formulations for other substrates and a variety of media. Canna coco is high in humus and fulvic acids for maximum nutrient absorption. The number of cycles of nutrient introduction will depend on the type of plants that you are growing.

    Excessive Application

    • The formula is concentrated and requires dilution with water. The amount to apply is 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. Stir the mixture well and allow it to stand at room temperature for several hours to completely assimilate. Then add it slowly to the hydroponics solution while the pump is on, circulating the nutrients.

With coco coir substrate, the formula is less damaging because it leaches slowly into where the roots are growing. It is still important to follow the package instructions and frequency recommended for the type of plant you are growing.

    Concentration

    • Smaller plants and seedlings in hydroponics or coco situations have finer root structures that are sensitive and can be easily burned or damaged by high concentrations of nutrients. The pH of the water affects how quickly and efficiently a plant's roots can up take nutrients. If the pH is not between 5.8 and 6.1, the plants could turn yellow due to either excess uptake or poor uptake. The proper dilution is also important. Young root systems are sensitive to concentrated nitrogen which turns them yellow. Use a starter formula if you are growing cuttings, seedlings or very small plants.

    Flushing

    • Nutrient solutions can build up in hydroponic tanks and should be flushed if they are not maintaining at proper levels. Salts in nutrient solutions can make the hydroponics system toxic and need to be periodically removed. Excess salt can cause yellowing in the hydroponics plants. A flushing nutrient is added to the hydroponics system. These are generally ionic and will attract and remove the excess toxins in the solution. Flushing should ideally be done between each nutrient introduction.
