How to Style Medium Length Hair for Women

58

    Waves

    • 1). Section off the hair at the very front of your hairline. This section should be about 2 to 3 inches in width. Comb this section of hair straight up, then roll the entire section into a hot roller.

    • 2). Insert a roller pin -- they come with the rollers -- through you hair and roller to keep the roller in place.

    • 3). Repeat Steps 1 and 2 with hair sections directly below the first hair roller. This is often called the "Mohawk Strip."

    • 4). Roll the hair section just above your right ear into a hot roller. Then, roll the hair section that falls in between the roller above your right ear and one of the rollers from the Mohawk Strip into a hot roller.

    • 5). Roll the hair section just above your left ear into a hot roller. Then, roll the hair section that falls in between the roller above your left ear and one of the rollers from the Mohawk Strip into a hot roller.

    • 6). Roll the remaining hair sections of hair below your ears into several hot rollers, as well.

    • 7). Spray the rolled hair with a light mist of hair spray. Leave the hair in the rollers for at least 15 minutes.

    • 8). Remove the roller pins and the rollers from your hair. Finger comb your hair for a more defined look. For loose, soft waves, brush your hair out. Spray your hair with some more hair spray to hold your look.

    Curls

    • 1). Section the hair around your crown off, and clip the section on top of your head with a hair clip. Section the hair above your ears off, and clip the section to your head with a hair clip. The last section will remain down.

    • 2). Spray the bottom section of your hair with a light mist of hair spray. Pull a small section of hair -- 1-inch width -- away from the bottom section.

    • 3). Clamp the barrel around the bottom of the hair. Holding the curling iron horizontal, wrap the hair up into the barrel. Leave the hair in the barrel for 30 seconds, then release the hair. Holding the curling iron vertically will make banana curls, which may be OK for a small child but not for adults.

    • 4). Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with the remaining bottom section of hair.

    • 5). Remove the hair clip from the middle section of hair and repeat Steps 2 and 3. Then, remove the top section of hair and repeat Steps 2 and 3. Spray a light mist of hair spray in your hair for a all-day hold.

    Straight

    • 1). Spray your hair with a light layer of thermal hair protectant spray. Flat irons can reach temperature of almost 500 degrees F, and the thermal protectant sprays help to prevent heat damage. Section your hair into three sections.

    • 2). Clamp the flat barrels of your hot flat iron around a section of hair. The size of the section depends on the size of your flat iron.

    • 3). Pull the barrels down through the section of hair quickly.

    • 4). Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the bottom section of hair is straight. Release the middle section of hair and repeat Steps 2 and 3. Release the top section of hair, and continue to flat iron your hair as in Steps 2 and 3.

    • 5). Apply a dime-sized drop of hair serum to your hands. Work the hair serum into the length and ends of the hair. Avoid putting the serum in the hair around your crown, as this can cause a greasy look.
