It quite an easier walk than most of the forests and the coastal tracks in the area and this also stays close to the river, thus making it all the more beautiful from estuary to Bodmin Moor. This was originally and old railway track therefore it is mostly leveled, baring a few places. This is a free for all recreation, mostly funded by the local residents of the area who pay for local taxes.
The trail comprises of three basic sections, each is approximately 6 miles long. The first one is from Padstow to Wadebridge which is about 8.8 kilometers. The 2nd one is from Wadebridge to Boscarne this is about 9.25 kilometers and the 3rd and the last one is from Boscarne to Wendfordbridge, which covers a distance of 10.1 kilometers. The trail is usually flat in the entire length. The trail from Padstow to Nanstallon is owned and taken care of by the Cornwall county council.
There is so much of wildlife in the area around the Camel Trail. Almost twelve species of plants have been found along the trail, and these are all rare species. The place is of importance to the species of winter birds. Many mammals are also seen here, like the rabbit and rare otter. Day to day management of the trail is looked after by the county and district councils.
There are certain rules and regulations which have to be followed while walking in the Trail. Like dogs are allowed, however they have to be kept under control. If you dog litters, please ensure you clean the dog and keep the place clean. Cyclists are allowed however high speed has to be avoided as that can lead to accidents. Please be considerate to the other people who are using the trail. You have to respect the privacy of the nearby properties. Please carry you own bag, as garbage cannot be thrown anywhere and everywhere.
