How to Troubleshoot a 2001 Saturn Window Switch
- 1). Check the fuse in the fuse block located inside the vehicle. It will be listed under Accessories. Use the voltmeter to check the installed fuse to make sure it has power. A blown fuse will cause the switch to fail, however, a good fuse with no power to it will also cause the same result.
- 2). Remove the window switch from the door panel by inserting the tip of a common screwdriver gently in the rear of the window switch and prying it up. Pull the switch slightly rearward and remove it. Leave it attached to its electrical connector.
- 3). Turn the ignition key to the run position but do not start the engine. Test the switch for power with the voltmeter. If there is no power to the switch, the problem is between the fuse and the switch. Check the wires where they pass through the front lower portion of the door to the kick panel. They are housed in rubber, so it will be necessary to check for continuity in the wires from the inside of the door to the inside of the kick panel using the ohm meter.
- 4). Hold the switch in the up or down position and check the back of the switch for intermittent power when the switch is moved. Move the switch in the opposite position and check once more for power. There should be power going into the switch and no other sign of power until the switch is moved into one of the positions. The left driver's door window switch should show power on two terminals. You will have power on only one switch at a time as the switch is moved to either position. Check all window terminals for power in both positions, up and down. If the switch fails any of the tests, it needs to be replaced.
