How to Replace a 2002 Jeep Liberty Headlight
- 1). Locate the negative battery cable on the battery; the negative terminal is marked on the battery case. Loosen the retaining bolt on the battery cable end with a wrench then remove the battery cable and end from the battery. Isolate the cable from the battery.
- 2). Locate the bulb retaining ring on the headlight assembly, working from the engine compartment side of the radiator support. Rotate the locking right counterclockwise until it separates from the headlight assembly.
- 3). Pull the headlight bulb, socket and locking ring out of the headlight assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the rear of the bulb. Release the locking tab on the connector by pulling up slightly on the tab then separate the connector from the bulb.
- 4). Remove the bulb and socket from the locking ring then discard them. Install the locking ring onto a new 9007QL bulb and socket, being sure not to touch the glass on the bulb. Oil from your hands will cause the bulb to fail early.
- 5). Connect the wiring harness connector to the new bulb and socket, pushing the connector in until it locks on to the tab on the bulb. Insert the bulb and socket into the back of the headlight assembly then turn the locking ring clockwise to secure it to the headlight assembly.
- 6). Move to the opposite side of your Liberty and repeat the process, changing the second headlight bulb. It is important to change the bulbs as a set to ensure the lights have an even, balanced output.
- 7). Install the negative battery cable on the negative post of the battery then tighten the retaining bolt with a wrench. Turn on the headlights and check them to verify they are both working correctly.
