How to Make a Snare for Catching Rodents
- 1). Grab one end of the string and fold it to create a loop. Tie a double overhand knot with the loop to make it a permanent fixture on the string.
- 2). Pass the opposite end of the string through the loop to create a round opening. The opening is the noose that traps the rodent.
- 3). Locate two sticks with small forks on the top. Find a travel route that is utilized by the rodent and walk the route until you locate a choke point that forces the rodent through a small opening. Rodents are flexible and will squeeze through narrow openings on a regular basis.
- 4). Drive the ends of the two sticks into the ground. Position the sticks on either side of the choke point with the forks near the top of the choke point.
- 5). Tie one end of the rope to a stable object that is anchored on the ground. Position the loop on the two forked sticks. Use a small loop to ensure that you snare the small rodent. The loop will tighten around the rodent as it pushes through the choke point.
- 6). Add bait to both sides of the trap. The bait encourages the rodent to use the route and move between the choke point. Cheese, nuts and snack foods are effective baits for rodents.
