  The Windows XP Movie Maker program is a free Microsoft program included most new computers using windows. It can otherwise be downloaded for free at Microsoft.com. To access this program which may already exist in your computer, click the "Start" menu on your desktop and view "All Programs." Scroll until you find Windows Move Maker (WMM), left click on the program, and right click "Open" to launch it. The requirements for capturing video using WMM include a digital video camera and an IEEE 1394 card or analog video capture card. Many newer computers already have the IEEE 1394 installed, but if you don't have one, search manufacturers that make cards for your computer. If you use an analog video camera or VCR, you will need to have an analog video capture card. With WMM you can create, share, and edit home movies on your computer.   Most new Apple computers using OSX come with a free copy of the iMove program. iMovie allows you to import video clips and photos and edit them with a drag and drop feature. You can also add titles, effects, and transitions, and share your movies on-line or as a DVD. iMovie begins to import your video after you plug your digital camcorder into your Apple computer. iMovie is compatible with video formats like AVCHD and MPEG4 and the new iFrame video format. The iMovie program features color and audio controls in floating windows so that you can organize it anywhere on the screen. You can click and publish your iMovies to MobileMe, an Apple subscription service featuring an on-line gallery, where people can view and download it. Send your iMovies to iTunes and syncronize them with an iPod or iPhone or send it to Apple TV and view it on the big screen. iMovie also gives you the option to burn a DVD by choosing iDVD from the share menu and creating a fully featured CD.
