How to Melt Earwax
- 1). Use a hot-water bottle. Fill it with warm water. Place the water bottle on a pillow and lay your head down with the ear on the bottle. Do this for 15 to 30 minutes. The heat will melt the earwax and allow it to flow out of the ear canal. Use a washcloth to gently wipe the outer ear to get rid of the melted earwax.
- 2). Use an over-the-counter earwax dissolver such as Debrox. Tilt the head to the side and place the drops in the ear, getting it into the ear canal. You may need some help with this procedure. Place a cotton ball in the ear to hold the solution in the ear canal. Leave in for at least 15 to 30 minutes.
- 3). Remove the cotton ball and tilt the head to the side facing downwards. Use the washcloth to remove the earwax in the outer ear.
- 4). Use an ear irrigation kit if the earwax is not flowing out of the ear after using the hot-water bottle or the drops alone.
- 5). Place the drops in the ear. Use the cotton ball to hold the drops in the ear canal for up to 30 minutes. Remove the cotton balls.
- 6). Fill the irrigation bulb with warm water. Squirt into the ear canal gently. This will force out the melted wax in the ear canal that the dissolver melted. Continue this step until the ear is free of wax.
