How to Remove Paint From Outside Brick Steps
- 1). Remove as much paint as possible from the exterior brick steps, using focused water pressure from a pressure washer. Wait two to four hours for the steps to dry.
- 2). Scrape large strips of flaking paint from the exterior brick steps, using a putty knife.
- 3). Put on rubber gloves.
- 4). Apply paint stripping solvent to the top brick step, using a 3- to 4-inch paintbrush, manufactured for oil-based paints.
- 5). Wait 60 seconds for the solvent to loosen the brick paint. Remove the loosened paint, using the putty knife. Use a wire brush to scrape paint from the mortar between each brick. Sand stubborn bits of paint from the steps, using a coarse, 80-grit sandpaper. Continue until each step is free from paint.
