How to Get Rid of a Hissing Cockroach
- 1). Step on the cockroach. While they do get as large as three inches long, hissing cockroaches are still small enough to crush under a foot. Wear a pair of heavy boots or large shoes that cover the foot completely.
- 2). Spray any hissing cockroaches you see with a chemical cockroach spray. If hissing cockroaches are invading your home -- it is possible to kill them like any other cockroach -- spray it with poison. When spraying, take care to avoid areas where you make food like counters and spray the bugs when they are on the floor.
- 3). Sprinkle a vegetable with boric acid and place it in a dark location. Unlike other species of cockroach, the hissing cockroach prefers to eat vegetables rather than sugar. To make a trap for the hissing cockroach, putting boric acid on a vegetable will draw the cockroach to the vegetable and the acid will slowly eat away the inside of the insect, ultimately resulting in death.
- 4). Seal up any cracks, crevices and potential entries to the house with caulk. The best way to get rid of the cockroach is to prevent it from coming into the house in the first place. While a hissing cockroach does not have wings like other species, it can climb even slippery surfaces. Taking the time to seal potential entries will prevent the cockroaches from entering your home in the first place.
