How to Change a Windshield Wiper Motor on a Ford Expedition
- 1). Move the wiper blades so that they are facing straight up on your Ford Expedition by turning the ignition switch to the "on" position. Then turn the windshield wipers on. Once the wipers are straight up, turn the wipers off and then turn off the ignition switch.
- 2). Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery with open end wrenches and move the cable out of the way. Be careful to move the cable to a place where it will not come in contact with a metal piece and cause an electrical spark.
- 3). Remove the right and left hand wiper arms from the assembly with a screwdriver. You need to remove the entire arm, not just the wiper blades themselves.
- 4). Remove the cowling that is over the top of the firewall with a screwdriver to have access to the windshield wiper motor. Remove the electrical wire harness from the windshield wiper motor with a socket wrench.
- 5). Undo the three bolts that are holding the wiper motor to the firewall and lift the motor out of the engine compartment. Replace with the new windshield wiper motor, by putting the new motor in position and attaching it to the firewall with three bolts.
- 6). Reattach the electrical wire harness to the wiper motor and put the cowling back in place. Once the cowling is secured, reattach the left and right wiper arms.
- 7). Connect the negative battery cable to the battery and then check the wiper motor by turning the ignition switch on and turning on the windshield wipers. Allow wipers to move back and forth several times to verify they are working properly.
- 8). Turn the wiper switch off once you are satisfied they are working correctly and then turn the ignition switch off.
