The Reason Why Your Teenager Should Stop Drinking Energy Drinks!

"Who Else Wants To Know About Safe Energy Drink Alternatives?"

Chances are very good that your son or daughter has tried Red Bull, Monster, Nos, or Rockstar at least once.

Maybe you've asked that question, "Is it a Big Deal or not?" Yes. It's a Really Big Deal.

Energy drinks can be very dangerous for a variety of reasons. The caffeine content in most energy drinks are quite high. One ounce of pure caffeine contains 500mg. One average coffee contains about 160mg. Energy drinks range anywhere from 200 to 1,250mg!

Long term effects remain unknown at this point. The question that is yet to be answered is: what effects will be seen on the liver, pancreas, and insulin production/resistance and will it create diabetes?

Many news reports support that drinking Energy Drinks are a Big Deal. People have died. That's a Big Deal. People who are susceptible to life-threatening effects of high amounts of caffeine are especially vulnerable.

Heart rates increase with any amount of caffeine, but dramatically so with large doses of caffeine. Heart failure, dangerously increased high blood pressure, and impaired brain functions have followed consumption of these drinks. Seizures and death from cardiac arrest have been well documented. Mix alcohol in the drink and we have "wide awake drunks" that kill themselves or others, not having a clue they are intoxicated. Many police reports support that statement.

Energy drinks have been labeled as "dietary supplements" which means there has been very little regulation. All kinds of claims have been made ("Enhances athletic performance", "Leads to better focus and concentration") that have misled athletes to their death, even a day AFTER consuming the beverage!

Energy drinks have many ingredients that have not been thoroughly researched or at least have not been studied together as a mixture. Many of these ingredients work synergistically, so even more "power" is behind the punch than what is labeled or known. Throw in lots of sugar and we have a body screaming for mercy.

Too much sugar impairs absorption of fluids and leads to dehydration and "mis-firing" of the electrical impulses from cell to cell. Some ingredients that are known are taurine, glucronolactone, B vitamins, ginseng, Guarana, Ginkgo Biloba, and milk thistle. Guarana has high levels of caffeine and Ginseng is used to enhance athletic performance.

The average healthy person who consumes one serving may suffer, at worst with "The Jitters", but most likely will be fine as long as they do not exercise soon after. Those who WILL suffer are the "toxic jocks" and those with underlying health issues. The scary part is not every one knows they have an underlying heart issue (or other problem). They often find out the hard way.

Good healthy alternatives of course include water, sports drinks with LOW amounts of sugar and have electrolytes, small amounts of coffee, green, tea, green juices and smoothies, and protein shakes. Electrolytes in sports drinks help restore proper nerve, heart, and muscle conductivity (nerve impulses and muscle contractions) from cell to cell.

A healthy alternative to regular coffee and green tea are those infused with Ganoderma lucidum, Cordyceps, and Ginseng. The caffeine in these products are "evened" out by the Ganoderma. A person still feels the "pick me up" of the caffeine, but without "The Jitters" or "The Crash" that follows.

Ganoderma has amazing health benefits that are well documented in peer reviewed journals. Ganoderma alone has 150+ antioxidants, 200+ nutrients and is world renowned for possessing healing anti-aging, weight-loss, longevity, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

It provides alertness and many athletes use the products (especially the Ganoderma and Ginseng) before and after workouts and events. The Ganoderma helps to retain hydration and pH balance. When the pH level of the body is in balance, all other systems remain in balance as well, including insulin secretion and sugar uptake. This leads to a much better and more productive afternoon than the normal coffee and sugar crash that many experience in the late afternoon.
