2. Are Out

After you accept who you are, the next thing that makes lesbians happy is being out in most areas of their lives. The stress of hiding a part of yourself can have a negative impact on your happiness.

Of course, there are some reasons and some locations where it is not safe to be out in all instances, but the more areas in your life where you can be out, the happier you will be.

3. Are Happy with Their Relationship Status

One of the keys to being happy is accepting where you are, even if you wish for something better or different. This includes relationship status. Lesbians who are happy are those who accept their relationship status, whether they are single or in a relationship.

Single lesbians make the most out of it, by getting out and doing things that make them happy, giving back to the community and having active lives.

They know that being in a relationship doesn't define them and they appreciate the benefits singlehood provides.

Those who are in relationships appreciate their partners and take the time to let their partners know that. They do little things to make their spouse happy, like sending flowers for no reason, set time aside for romance and have hobbies or other things in common.

4. Have a good Network of Friends

Friends are important to happiness, no matter what your sexual orientation. Whether the friends are lesbian or not, is not important. What is important is that your friends "get you," love and support you, lift you up when you're down and make time to laugh and have fun together.

5. Have Good Relationships with Their Families

Having a good relationship with your parents, your siblings, your extended family and children are all important factors in happiness. Families that support you, love you, encourage you and that you enjoy spending time with is one key to happiness.

Of course, sometimes the relationships are out of our control. Things come into play that we cannot control, like parents not accepting our lifestyles or sexual orientation, substance abuse or lingering memories of child abuse or sexual abuse.

The key to having good relationships with members of our family is to accept them where they are for who they are.

Health and happiness are linked. Healthy people are happier and happy people are healthier. This goes for lesbians too. Taking care of our bodies by eating right and getting enough sleep and exercising is important to our well-being. Many lesbians ignore their health or have unhealthy habits such as smoking, drinking too much and over-eating.

Take a look at your life and see if there are ways you can improve your health by exercising more, eating better or lowering your stress.

Humans who live with animals are less likely to suffer from depression than those who don't have pets. They're healthier too. Pet owners have lower blood pressure in stressful situations than those without pets and playing with your cat or dog can increase serotonin and dopamine levels which make you feel good.
