How to Learn Advanced Access
- 1). Read the manual that came with your copy of Microsoft Access. Take notes while reading the manual and use a highlighter to emphasize important information that you need to remember. Practice using the functions described in the user manual after each chapter. Create a practice database for self training using the owner's manual.
- 2). Download help documents and tutorials from the Microsoft Office training site. These documents are free to download.
- 3). Access online training courses provided by Microsoft are self-guided. Complete each course at your own pace. Training modules take about 30 to 60 minutes to complete. After each training module, take the opportunity to practice what you have learned and to test your knowledge. Repeat training courses as necessary.
- 4). Enroll in a course online or at your local community college or technical school if you need more in depth instruction to use the advanced functions of Access. Courses to learn advanced Access typically provide instruction on restructuring data, writing advanced queries used to summarize and analyze information, and creating macros to make working with Access easier. Online and college courses may be used as credits toward Microsoft certification. Check with the admissions officer prior to enrollment to verify that the course will count toward certification.
