Sclerotherapy in dermatology

10
Sclerotherapy can erase spider veins and varicose veins that show up on the skin of your legs with age.

As we age, our bodies undergo various changes. Among them is the webbed appearance of the skin, which is more obvious than most other changes happening in the body. This is caused by spider and reticular veins and broken blood vessels that show through the skin. As a result, the skin on your legs can look like an assortment of colors €" red, blue and purple.
How does this happen? Genetics can be the culprit. If you mother or father had varicose veins as they aged, then you are likely to develop them too. Other risk factors include hormones, illness, and even habits such as standing for a long time without a break. This last factor can be a result of your job which requires you to be on your feet most of the time.
Whatever the reason and whatever your age, these colored marks on your legs cause a great deal of embarrassment. You probably stopped wearing shorts or skirts because you don't want anyone to notice the veins. However, this is a very common condition, seen in about 30 to 60 percent of all adults. It occurs more among women than men. It's not a health threatening condition by any means.
Sclerotherapy is considered the best treatment for varicose veins. It was developed in the 1930s and holds a high success rate. Patients that have undergone this treatment show a great degree of improvement. The method involves injecting a solution into the problematic vein. As a result, the vein will fold upon itself and within a few weeks dissolve and be absorbed by the body. The injected agent can be special saline formulations or foam solutions.
If you are interested in getting this treatment the first step is to find a good dermatology office in Austin. You will need to come in to the office for a few sessions, each one lasting approximately ten minutes. After the procedure is completed, your doctor may advise you to wear a compression stocking for a few days to make sure that you see results fast. Some patients will note that a few spider veins or varicose veins still exist after treatment. Your doctor will monitor your recovery and ask you to come in for a few more sessions to erase the remaining veins.
