Graduation - There is a Reason Why They Call it Commencement
If you are over the age of 17 and have graduated, then you can relate to this.
High School Graduation is one of the biggest achievements anyone can achieve.
It is a true declaration of one's independence.
This is the night, when you can stay out late and party like hell.
Most parents, whether single or married, take the time to celebrate themselves.
Our parents celebrate because it means we will no longer be in there home, or house if you're southern.
For children, it means we've taken that crucial step towards earning our freedom.
The funny thing is freedom isn't what we imagined it to be.
College is 20 million times worse than high school, in terms of expectations and work.
We are forced to be adults and it is more pressure than we can sometimes handle.
I was mortified at the stories of freshman at the University of South Carolina and how some had committed suicide in some of the dorm rooms.
It's been 10 years, since the stories were relayed to me by an ex-girlfriend but they still scare me.
Trying to fit in is a dangerous task, because it's done at the discretion of other youngsters.
Going to college is like being on "Lord of the Flies," but with some type of partial adult supervision.
However, once the adults are gone the kids will play.
I just want to remind all of the graduates out there, that high school was only a stepping stone.
Your next step will be more complex and require a lot more concentration.
You need to take every lesson taught and apply it to real life.
Take the time to listen to people who normally bore you with their outlandish advice.
Once they are dead and gone, you are on your own, and only thing you have is their advice.
Commencement may seem like it's a final step, but the actual definition means that it is the beginning, and it is very accurate.
It is the beginning, the start of your new adult life.
