The Taiwanese Smartphone manufacturers HTC have become popular in recent years by combining cutting edge mobile technology with stylish design, leaving many traditional mobile manufacturers looking sadly out of date.
Indeed, HTC's range of Android-powered devices are seen as the closest competitors to Apple's hugely successful iPhone.
The HTC Desire is the most powerful Android device yet released, with a huge 3.
7 inch screen that is ideal for watching movies and tv shows or browsing the web.
It comes with a massive 32Gb of memory and an excellent 5 megapixel camera that makes it a great all-round media device, plus it's fast 1Ghz processor makes running downloaded applications and software fast and fun.
Design-wise, the HTC Desire is appropriately attractive, with most of the front taken up by the large capacitive touchscreen and a small number of handy buttons.
Despite its large size, it looks sleek and modern thanks to its 12mm depth.
The screen is clear and bright, with the high resolution making the most of HTC's customized Sense user interface.
Controlling menu's and applications is fast and intuitive thanks to a responsive touchscreen, and the virtual keyboard is accurate enough to make composing emails and messages quick and painless.
The HTC Desire can run the full range of Android applications and games, and comes with a fantastic mobile browser that supports flash.
Photo and video quality is good, and the handset comes with built-in integration of your social networking profiles.
The phone includes a trackpad sensor that makes scrolling through long lists quick and painless, and the media player software is top-notch.
Smartphone's, even great models like the HTC Desire, aren't for everyone.
Indeed there are compromises made when it comes to issues such as battery life, with the huge screen and powerful processor on the Desire reducing talk-time to less than ten hours.
Also, however good the Desire's virtual keyboard, users with heavy messaging needs, especially business users who need to write full emails, will find the absence of a BlackBerry-style proper physical Qwerty keyboard to be a significant factor.
Even with these issues, the HTC Desire represents another step forward in the evolution of mobile computing.
In Android, users have an operating system that has all the advantages of an open platform that are missing from closed system like iOS, with the Android marketplace now hosting a huge variety of free and paid-for software.
The additions to the user interface found in HTC Sense UI are also very welcome, adding up to a package of design and functionality that is hard to beat.
