Can a Little Faith Move Mountains?

35
Matthew 17:20 where Jesus says, "Because you have so little faith.
I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible for you.
" All of my life, as a Christian, I've heard over and over and over again that all you need is a little faith, faith the size of a Mustard Seed, and you could move mountains.
Helpful and good meaning Christians have always pointed to Matthew 17:20 where Jesus says, 20"Because you have so little faith.
I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible for you.
" Because of this saying by Jesus, most churches I've attended and most Christians I know have always taught that all you need is a little faith to move mountains.
But the strange this is, although I've always had a little faith, I was never able to move mountains out of my life.
How about you? Have you been able to speak to the mountains in your life and have them move from here to there? What about that financial mountain? Has it moved out of your life? What about that relationship mountain? See it going any where? What about that health mountain? Has it gone into the sea for you? I can't even hear you through this email but I'm willing to bet that your answer to all of these questions is a flat out NO! So, if all we need is a little faith-faith the size as a mustard seed-than how is it that these mountains in our life's haven't left? It's because something we believe is not right.
Since Jesus is the TRUTH and everything he says in the bible is TRUE, than there's nothing wrong with what Jesus said.
Something is wrong in the interpretation we believe.
This made me curious.
This one little "untrue" teaching that I've learned got me seriously researching and studying what Jesus meant when he said, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain MOVE from here to there, and it will move.
The first thing I realized--and you should take note of this and truly apply it to your life-the first thing I learned is that we should NEVER, under any circumstances, take verses out of content in the bible.
Each verse is part of a story and you can only understand the true meaning if you read the entire story and understand why something is being said.
If all we needed was a "little faith" then how is it that every single time in the bible, when someone shows little faith, Jesus reprimands' them? Remember when Jesus was walking across the water and Peter asked if he could walk across the water towards Jesus? Jesus said, go ahead.
So, Peter, gets out of the boat and starts walking across the water.
But the minute the water gets a little rocky and Peter takes his eyes off of Jesus, he starts to sink.
Jesus catches him and says, "oh, ye of little faith.
" Another example is when Jesus and the guys were on a boat and Jesus fell asleep and the disciples were battling a storm.
Finally, they woke up Jesus who instantly calmed the storm.
His first words to them were "oh, ye of little faith.
" In fact, if Matthew 17:20 were NOT taken out of content, the first words he speaks is "Because you have so little faith.
" This story, when left in content, is about the disciples' inability to cast out a demon from a man's son.
After Jesus casts out the demon, the disciples ask him, "How is it that we were unable to cast out this demon?" And his answer was, "Because you have so little faith.
" But if you look through the bible and find situations where Jesus praises folks who have BIG faith you will find that great faith is what pleases Him.
Remember the Centurion who's servant was home dying.
He said to Jesus, if you just speak the word, my servant will be healed.
Jesus "astonished" turns to the crowd and says, "I haven't found so much faith in all of Israel.
" Remember the woman with the issue of blood.
Her faith is what healed her.
In fact, after almost every healing miracle, Jesus says "By your faith, you are healed.
" Or, "as it is your faith, so shall it be.
" So, with this information, does it make sense to you that all you need in your life is a little faith, faith the size as a mustard seed, to move mountains from YOUR life? NO!!! Jesus was stating the exact OPPOSITE.
But this got me curios.
Why would Jesus say anything about a mustard seed? I mean, He DID say that all you needed was faith the size of a mustard seed.
A mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds around.
So, why would he even mention it? It's kind of confusing, right? Did you know that a mustard seed, although it is one of the smallest seeds around, when planted and nourished, turns into one of the biggest trees in the garden? Therefore, in Matthew 17:20, Jesus wasn't telling us that all we needed was a little faith.
Jesus was telling us that if we plant faith within our hearts, and nourish it, or DEVELOP it, and allow it to grow like a mustard seed-then and only then can we speak to this mountain and tell it to move from here to there, and it will move.
Stick with me and I will teach you how to develop that Mustard Seed Faith.
