How to Intall a Jet Chip
- 1). Park the vehicle so that there is plenty of lighting in a dust-free environment and open the hood to access the engine compartment. Disconnect the black, negative battery cable from the vehicle's battery to disconnect the power from the wiring harness during the installation of a Jet performance chip. Locate the computer control box for your vehicle. Located near or on the firewall inside the engine bay or the passenger compartment, this junction box or wiring panel contains the factory computer controls for the vehicle.
- 2). Install the Jet performance chip or module into the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) of the vehicle. For older models of vehicle, remove a factory programming chip from the ECU and replace with a Jet chip. For installation in modern junction panels and computer boxes, locate the computer control and insert a Jet chip in between the computer control electronic leads and the junction box or computer control. The Jet chip plugs into the outlet that the factory adapter fits into. Plug the existing factory wiring adapter into the Jet chip performance module and the new programming will be installed.
- 3). Remove computer control boxes from their storage space using metric or American wrenches. A ratcheting wrench with sockets quickly loosens and removes mounting bracket fasteners and brackets. Turn counter clockwise to loosen and clockwise to tighten. Once the computer control box is removed, take to a workbench and plug the Jet performance chip module into the module outlet designated by color. A Jet chip cannot be plugged into any other outlet other than the one that it is intended for, so any fear of installing in the wrong adapter is removed. Plug the Jet chip in and then replace the wiring harness leads as they were. Plug the wiring harness into the new Jet chip and install the computer back into place.
- 4). Working inside the passenger compartment on an ECU, a screwdriver or wrench will be needed to release the computer box from its mounting bracket. Open the control box and pull the old, factory chip out of its slot and replace with the new Jet chip. Keep the old, factory chip stored away in the protective packaging that the Jet chip was sent in. Secure the computer control unit back in place before starting the vehicle. You may need to access the space underneath and inside the dashboard of the vehicle to get to the computer control box of an older model computer controlled car or truck. Release the friction clasps and fasteners that hold the dashboard in place until you can reach and release the computer control unit and install the Jet performance chip. Tighten all fasteners back in place once the installation is complete.
- 5). Check all connections and ECU mounting fasteners and electric wiring to be sure that the Jet chip or performance module is securely in place. Connect the black, negative battery cable back to the negative power post of the vehicle's battery and tighten securely. Close the hood and insert the key into the ignition to start. Turn the key and start the engine. Idle the vehicle for one minute to let the vehicle acknowledge the new program and alert the driver of any problems. Jet performance chips are designed to be installed quickly and easily without the problems that come with other computer performance products. Look for warning lights or trouble lights that can be initiated after the installation of a performance computer control. If no warning light is lit, drive the vehicle with the new program with confidence that Jet performance chips are the best performing computer upgrades for the money and are easy to install on any vehicle that can be upgraded with this product.
