Euna Lee Jailed in North Korea:

Working mom Euna Lee gained international prominence when she and colleague Laura Ling were detained in North Korea while reporting for Current Media about North Korean refugees.

Euna Lee and Laura Ling were sentenced to 12 years hard labor for illegally entering North Korea. After 140 days in jail, Euna Lee and Laura Ling were released on Aug. 4, 2009, following the intervention of former President Bill Clinton.

Euna Lee's Background:

Euna Lee, 36, is a Korean-American journalist who moved to the United States from Seoul, South Korea in 1995, where her parents still live. The second of three sisters, Lee received her BFA in film and broadcasting from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She enjoys movies and designing jewelry.

As an editor at Current TV in the Vanguard Journalism unit, Euna Lee travelled with colleague Laura Ling to the China-North Korea border, where they were detained in March 2009. Their families, including Ling's sister Lisa Ling of "The View" television show, launched a campaign calling for their release. Lee joined Current Media when it was founded.

In 1999, Lee married Michael Saldate, an actor whom she met at church when they were living in the San Francisco Bay Area. They live with their 4-year-old daughter, Hana, in Los Angeles.
