Everyone Can Draw and Paint!

23
Painting and drawing freely is something everyone does, probably without realizing it at the time.
I think that you will find that we all are guilty of doodling, on pads, invoices, serviettes, particularly while we are on the telephone.
Often when we are half listening to what is being said.
You might say we are a nation of born scribblers.
It is just something we all do, naturally and without thinking.
It starts off small and then gets elaborated on.
We do this from a tender age and this is a perfectly normal.
So basically anybody, in theory, should be able to draw without consciousness, we are exercising our imagination and creativity.
This is your starting point.
You can develop this in many ways, it could be drawing boxes, flowers, or maybe different geometric shapes.
Guess what? Next you are filling your doodle in with darker and lighter patches which really are creating light and shade on a small scale.
I love watching very young children draw, seeing how they perceive things in their little minds.
Mummy and Daddy are not always impressed with how they are portrayed.
However it is generally taken in good part.
Next up they ask you to draw all kinds, cats, dogs, horses etc.
and then the fun starts! Felt tip pens were a good invention.
Especially the non toxic ones, whether used by adults or children.
Fortunately they come in different thickness's so they can be used for a multitude of things.
Kids love and spend many happy hours experimenting with poster paints.
Granted, they might paint themselves into the bargain, but what fun they have.
The only drawback I can see is you need to discourage them from painting on your walls! They delight filling in colouring books with their wax crayons.
I am sure that they must sometimes find it quite hard with their tiny little fingers too using chalks on a little slate or child's blackboard.
Quite honestly I can say that one of my favourite occupations is people watching, this is something everybody does.
Yes, observing people in all types of situations.
Whether it is from a pavement cafe, on the beach, watching sport, looking at faces and expressions, could be in a bus station, or how people move.
It feeds us, though we may not be aware of it at the time.
It is exactly the same for writers watching different angles, and the way people react to given situations.
Old or young people are always fascinating.
Interestingly enough we seem to store these cameo clips in the back of our brain.
Only to make the realization at a much later date, that, something from an earlier time has made the connection for us to actually use now.
It might only bear a slight relation to what you originally saw but somehow this has fired your imagination and remained with you.
This proves the point, that if you can see, you should be able to draw.
Yes, you will probably have a few attempts, screwed up papers in the waste paper bin, but this is just the beginning.
Have fun with it; spread yourself across the page or canvas.
Let your imagination run wild.
Freedom knows no bounds!
