Top Ten Tips For a Healthy Diet That Fits With Family Life

25
Below are ten tips for a healthy diet, before we get to them I wanted a word about planning and cooking.
You should try to plan as many meals as possible a week in advance, this allows you to buy the things you need ahead of schedule and do some preparing up front.
If you are having Chilli on Tuesday night, why not cook it on Sunday and keep it in the fridge til Tuesday, this has 2 benefits, firstly the Chilli or Curry will taste better for maturing and secondly, in the time it takes to heat up and cook rice you will have a magnificent family meal on the table, surely removing the temptation of the take away.
Additionally if you can make too much, please do, and freeze in portion sized bags (mark with contents and date), now you have a quick meal in the freezer for those times when nothing is planned.
Enjoy the cooking if you can, its part of the eating process, easy to say when you don't have 3 kids competing for your attention as you cook but if you can make time at the weekend or before bed to prepare the next days meal, you will enjoy it all the more.
Sometimes you might have a meat and potato meal midweek, remember potatoes can be prepared the day before and kept in the pan (under water) just ready to go, vegetables can be chopped and prepared and stored in fridge ready to cook (we keep them in the steamer baskets just ready to transfer to the steamer for cooking).
Again this takes away all the pain of producing these meals.
With good planning and shopping you can make your life so much easier and if you have a partner, the planning means they have no excuse for not helping or getting things started if you are busy.
Its all about keeping things easy for yourself to stop you reaching for the instant food fix.
