How to Change a Hub on a 2000 Chevy Pickup
- 1). Block the rear wheels using wheel chocks, and apply the parking brake to prevent the Chevy from falling while the wheels are removed. Raise the wheel off the ground using a floor jack, and slide a jack stand under the lower control arm. Remove the wheel using a lug wrench, and lay it aside.
- 2). Remove the brake caliper from the front spindle by removing the two 17-mm caliper bracket bolts using a socket and ratchet. Lift the caliper up and off the rotor. Hang the caliper from the upper control arm using a piece of wire to prevent brake hose damage.
- 3). Slide the rotor off the front hub assembly, and lay it aside. Rotors that are stuck due to rust can be loosened by striking the hub area of the rotor with a hammer.
- 4). Remove the old hub by unbolting the three T-45 retaining bolts, located on the back side of the steering knuckle, using a Torx socket and ratchet. Slide the old hub assembly out of the steering knuckle.
- 5). Install the new hub into the steering knuckle, and tighten the retaining bolts tightly. Slide the rotor onto the new hub assembly, and reinstall the brake caliper.
- 6). Install the wheel, and tighten the lug nuts securely. Remove the jack stand, and lower the jack. Re-tighten the lug nuts one final time, and test drive the truck to verify the repair is complete.
