Structural Formula
Propulsid has cisapride as main active ingredient. Cisapride is present in monohydrate form in Propulsid. Its chemical name is (±) - cis - 4 - amino - 5 - chloro - N - [1 - [3 - (4 - fluorophenoxy)propyl] - 3 - methoxy - 4 - piperidinyl] - 2 - methoxybenzamide monohydrate. Its molecular weight is 483.97, an odorless powder, and white to slightly beige in color. It is insoluble in water and sparingly soluble in methanol, and soluble in acetone. The tablet contains colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate 20, povidone, and starch (corn) as inactive ingredients. Whereas are hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, methylparaben, microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose sodium, polysorbate 20, propylparaben, sodium chloride, sorbitol, and water are inactive ingredients in the suspension.
Uses of Propulsid
