How to Seal Stretch Magic

34
    • 1). Measure the length of the project. Use a measuring tape to determine the length of Stretch Magic needed. This step depends on the project at hand. For instance, measure the wrist for a bracelet, or drape across the throat for a necklace.

    • 2). Create the jewelry. Unravel the appropriate amount of Stretch Magic right from the spool. Don't stretch it out when you do this. The thread needs to be slack to get the correct measurements. Be sure to leave at least 3 inches on either end in order to tie the finished piece off. Cut off the string, and secure one end with an alligator clip to keep the beads from sliding off. Proceed to string the beads in the desired fashion. Alternatively, you can leave the Stretch Magic still attached to the spool while you string the beads. This method allows for a little more leeway in case the measurements aren't very accurate.

    • 3). Tie off the ends. Remove the alligator clip. If stringing right from the spool, cut away the beaded area, making sure enough length is left with which to tie a knot. Holding the two cut ends even, tie a half-knot just up to the top bead to secure. Don't pull too hard; you want to ensure the finished jewelry still has stretch to it. Tie another half-knot to form a square knot. Repeat two more half-knots, resulting in two square knots. Clip off the excess Stretch Magic, being sure to leave 1/8 to 1/4 inch from your knots to ensure they won't unravel.

    • 4). Secure the ends. Use a drop of super glue right on the knots, keeping the beads away from the glued ends until they are perfectly dry. Place a crimping bead right at the edge of the knot for extra protection. Use moderate pressure when closing the crimping bead so that it does not cut through the cord.

    • 5). Hide the remaining exposed Stretch Magic. Slowly work the thread through the beads until the knot is hidden within one of the beads. This is easiest when larger beads were used in the piece.
