Coming Out In A Small Town
Small towns have a tendency to embrace the expected and glare at anything or anyone outside of the usual. They can be quite homogenous.
Are you the only gay person in your small or rural town? Each place is different and you know best how well your environment fits within your present life and future plans.
Many people have move to urban cities when more rural towns aren't a fit. Urban environments tend to foster more individuality and attract like-minded people.
But, just as with every smaller town, each bustling city is different in terms of culture, people, activities and LGBT-friendliness.
Research to determine which city or region fits best. Search for gay-friendly businesses, organizations, and other activities that may attract other like-minded people. Then, make a plan to move. It's not always best to relocate without a source of income, friends or a support system. Make backup plans should things not go as expected and always keep your health and general welfare in mind when relocating.
