The Temporary Foreign Worker Program is a federal program. It is designed to meet temporary labor needs – the workers are in Alberta to fill short term gaps in the labor force. Several government departments are involved in the process.

Every year, over 150,000 foreign workers enter Canada to work temporarily in jobs that help Canadian employers address skill shortages, or to work as live-in caregivers.

If you are working in Alberta province under Temporary Foreign Worker Pilot (TFWP) project then here's the good news for you. Alberta has extended the Temporary Foreign Worker Pilot (TFWP) in which numbers of new categories are involved.

Temporary Foreign Worker Pilot (TFWP) project of Alberta includes categories like welders, heavy duty equipment mechanics, iron workers, millwright and industrial mechanics, carpenters and estimators.

Labor and Employment SecretaryRosalinda Dimapilis Baldoz received the letter from Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Patricia Ann Paez and revealed the new changes in Temporary Foreign Worker Pilot (TFWP) project.

Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenny said this expansion in temporary Foreign Worker Pilot (TFWP) project occurs due to shortage of skilled temporary workers in Alberta. It will enable more employers in Alberta to hire foreign workers on a temporary basis to fill short-term skills and labor needs only when Canadians or permanent residents are unavailable.

Baldoz also said Mr. Jason Kenny has announced temporary pause on the new applications to allow Citizenship and Immigration Canada to do important changes in the economic programs of Canada.

Stephen Khan, Alberta's minister of enterprise and advanced education said that the expansion of the pilot project will open the door for more employers to hire foreign workers on a temporary basis. The Temporary Foreign Worker Project was taken after careful consultation with large number of Alberta employers.

Khan also said that In order the protection of the Canadian citizens to be ensured, all of the applicants for the program will be required to secure a job offer from local employer. The job offer must show that the salary that will be paid is analogous with the average wage that is paid to the Canadian citizens who are working similar jobs in the region. Furthermore the employers must demonstrate that the working conditions for the job will be in accordance with the the current provincial labour market standards.
