How to Take Off a Boat Motor Cover
- 1). Disengage the latch at the rear of the motor. You may have to depress or raise the latch, depending on the motor.
- 2). Tilt the rear edge of the motor cover upward. Many motors have a pair of hooks at the front of the motor cover that hold the front edge in place. One notable exception is the Yamaha: you press latches at both the front and rear of the cover on Yamaha outboards. You can then lift the Yamaha cover straight up and off of the motor.
- 3). Manipulate the cover to free the front cover latches. Usually this merely of tilting the cover forward far enough for the hooks that hold the front of the cover in place to slide from under a bar or out of a pocket.
