How to Care for Hair Under a Lace Front Wig
- 1). Wash hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to ensure optimal scalp and hair health. Avoid shampoos that contain sodium laurel sulphate, which dries hair and makes it brittle over time. Use a protein conditioner or treatment if hair begins to break easily, as protein products lend strength to hair, limiting split ends and breakage.
- 2). Give your hair a deep conditioner treatment so that it receives adequate moisture and other nutrients it needs to remain healthy under the wig. Allow the treatment to stay in your hair for 15 or more minutes prior to washing it out.
- 3). Apply a leave-in conditioner and then seal your hair with a natural oil such as extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil. This helps your hair retain its moisture. Adequate moisture levels prevent hair from becoming dry, which causes breakage.
- 4). Prepare your hair to go under a lace front wig by wrapping it or styling it in cornrows. Wrapped or cornrowed hair allows the wig to lie flat against your head and makes it look natural. Additionally, this limits manipulation of your hair whenever you take off your wig as you do not have to constantly comb or brush your hair, which can contribute to unnecessary breakage.
- 5). Put on your lace front wig using the adhesive method of your choice. Wigs are kept in place with wig glue, wig tape, hair pins and even the elastic band method. Make sure that your adhesive does not damage the edges of your hair or your skin.
