About The Washington Center:
The Washington Center (TWC) for Internships and Academic Seminars is an independent nonprofit organization offering challenging credit-bearing internships to students wishing to work and learn in the Washington DC area. The program brings dedicated students and civic, governmental and business leaders, colleges and universities, public and private organizations, and over 50,000 alumni together in order to provide unique experiences to students.

The Washington Program is open to all majors.

In 1975 William and Sheila Burke decided to create an organization that provides college students from all backgrounds and income levels experiences that will enhance their resumes and launch their careers.

The Washington Center’s Mission Statement:

“The Washington Center creates transformational experiences for students that foster academic and professional achievement, leadership, and civic engagement.”

The Washington Center brings together a wealth of professional experience, academic coursework, and real-life challenges that hope to build future leaders of the United States. Program advisors work diligently to ensure that participants gain the most they can with their experience. The program bases its principles and beliefs on the fact that it is the fundamental civic duty for all participants to be knowledgeable, community oriented, and socially engaged leaders.

Washington Internships Two Core Programs:

Internships:

Washington Center Internships are semester or summer long projects that seek to help students build on their resume and eventually help them to launch their career based on what they've experienced throughout the program. Students complete their academics and engage in work experiences on a variety of topics, such as: government, corporations, and nonprofit organizations that will help launch them in their future careers. Since nine out of ten new hires today have completed at least one internship or co-op experience, it’s easy to see that students are making internships a high priority throughout their college career.

Academic Seminars:

Academic seminars offered through The Washington Center provide learning experiences that focus on specific topics. Topics include things like National Security, the Presidency and the Middle East Peace Process, etc. Seminars in the past have included locations such as Capitol Hill, CNN, the Newseum, embassies and many others too numerous to mention.

Programs of Study include American Politics, Global Economics and Business,Foreign Policy, International Environment and Development, International Law and Organizations, Journalism, Justice and Law, The Middle East and World Affairs, Peace and Conflict Resolution, and Transforming Communities.

Location: the Washington Center Internships are mostly in Washington DC but additional experiences do exist in London, England, and Sydney, Australia.
