How to Make Edible Bird Houses

30
    • 1). Clean out an empty cardboard milk carton with water and close the top. Squeeze the top closed with your fingers and punch a hole in the center of the flaps.

    • 2). Cut a hole in one side of the carton between 2 and 3 inches from the top. Make the hole about 3 to 4 inches in diameter.

    • 3). Punch a hole about 1 inch from the bottom of the opening you just cut. Stick a pencil, pointed-side in, through the hole and push it hard enough so that it punches out the opposite side of the carton. Remove the pencil.

    • 4). Cut a 1/2-inch dowel rod to about twice the width of the milk carton. Stick the dowel rod through the punched hole so that one end sticks out of the back of the carton and the other end sticks out of the front.

    • 5). Mix together 2 cups of peanut butter, 2 cups of cornmeal and 1 cup flour into a large bowl.

    • 6). Spread newspapers all over your work area and place the carton on top. Smear a thin layer of the peanut butter mixture all over the carton with a plastic knife.

    • 7). Pour birdseed onto the newspaper and spread it out. Press each side of the birdhouse in the birdseed lightly. The seed will stick to the peanut butter mixture and coat the walls in food for your birds. For the roof, sprinkle the seed on and press lightly with the back of a clean spoon.

    • 8). Tie a string around the hole at the top of the carton and hang the edible birdhouse from a tree branch.
